Thomas Kinkade - brief history of his work and how his paintings have expanded into additional collectibles and merchandise

As one of the most adored living painters of our time, Thomas Kinkade strives to create paintings that depict life as it once was or as the way it could be: serene, colorful, inspiring, and full of light. The look and feel of Kinkade's paintings speaks to the hearts and minds of his many fans. Each of his paintings seem to "light up," and this is why he consistently is referred to as the "Painter of Light."

Kinkade was inspired by artists such as Norman Rockwell, Stephan Dohanos, John Falter, John Clymer, and several others. Kinkade likes to provoke people's imagination and inspire happy thoughts, much like Norman Rockwell has done. He grew up seeing the images of Norman Rockwell on his mother's coffee table and was instantly drawn to them.

Kinkade's style and vision are based on that of nineteenth century Luminist painters who captivated people with an overall sense of light in their paintings. Thomas Kinkade captures that same warmth, comfort, and projection of light in his paintings. The windows, street lights and sky in each painting seem to literally light up.

Having experienced such widespread popularity, Thomas Kinkade's work turned into much more than paintings. His work has expanded into a whole slew of Thomas Kinkade collectibles and gifts. Since his early days of painting in the 1980's, Kinkade's work has evolved into many different types of licensed products.
