Food Isn't the Only Thing You Can Buy Organic

It seems as though anytime you hear the term “organic” it is used in reference to the food we may or may not eat every day.  Why do certain members of society move to a diet of organic food?  It surely isn’t to save on groceries!  Organic counterparts to some every day foods are almost twice as expensive.  The reason outweighs any dollar amount or need to jump on the organic bandwagon: it’s HEALTHIER.

 

The catch?  Ok, you have started buying organic food to keep the fuel entering your body as clean and healthy as possible, and when you lay down at night, you sleep better knowing you are eating healthy and your insides will thank you further down the road with a longer, healthier life.  What you may not realize is that bed you are laying on (among other things) is allowing dangerous chemicals to penetrate your skin essentially undoing some of the health benefits from eating organic.  Bedding has to conform to such strict fire codes, the chemicals companies spray on the beds to keep them up to federal code are wreaking havoc on your internal system.

 

This is not prevalent just in bedding, but in paint, new carpet, and the clothes we wear.  I can’t really help on paint, carpet and clothing (other than to say don’t paint, use hardwood, and wear only linen), but I can offer some advice on bedding.

 

You can invest in organic bedding just like organic food and thusly invest in your wellbeing.  You can find bedding made of 100% natural latex, organic cotton and wool that offer comfort your average department store bedding could never provide.  Some companies even offer the bedding as a kit you can put together yourself: Pick your own latex densities, an enclosed wool pad for a pillow top, and an organic cotton cover to encase all the components.  What you have after it is all said and done is a 100% natural bed that is far superior in quality and comfort to most major bed manufacturers at a really good deal!  No fire retardant chemicals are needed because all of the components are naturally fire retardant. 

 

Of course, testing new beds requires research and development to test a certain bed a specified number of times by the regulatory agencies.  This cost is not absorbed by the companies… are you kidding?  Consumers have to eat the r&d expenses in the cost of the mattress along with any other “fees” the companies want to toss in under the r&d guise.  Not only are they selling you something that may endanger your wellbeing and cause illnesses later in life, they are charging you MORE for it!
