How to pick a silk comforter?

Silk comforters are becoming more and more mainstream and slowly becoming the preferred choice with the opening up of the Chinese trade market.  However they are still not readily available in the mainstream stores where you might go shopping. My experience and research shows that silk comforters are best bought from specialty stores that specialize in silk bedding.  There are many such retailers online that one can choose from.

A silk filled comforter is one which is filled with silk floss and covered with a pure silk shell.  Thousands of silk cocoons are used to make this soft, light and fluffy filling for one silk comforter.  Do not be misled by comforters which are filled with cotton and have a pure silk outer shell or covering.  The appeal of the silk comforter is having the silk floss on the inside for its thermal qualities, light weight and natural hypoallergenic qualities.

When you buy a silk comforter or silk duvet (both are the same) make sure you also invest in a silk duvet cover.  This way your options open up and you can buy any colored silk comforter and then pick the silk duvet cover according to your décor and style.  Picking a silk comforter cover also increases the life of the comforter which can span any where form 5 – 10 years to a few decades, depending on how well you take care of the silk comforter.  The silk comforter cover absorbs the wear and tear and helps increase the life of the silk comforter.  Silk Comforters are much thinner and lighter that the down comforters so don’t be alarmed when you receive your comforter.

A silk comforter adds to the aesthetic of any room.  Not only does the room look better but the natural drape of the silk comforter allows for even temperature all over your body preventing both hot and cold spots.  The silk comforters are cool to touch but warm when used.  Its light weight and lightness gives the illusion of sleeping among clouds.  My vote is for buying a silk comforter and investing in both a healthier lifestyle and a greener planet.
